Title: NSFW channel
Thread Modes
#1
This thread will be a discussion and suggestion of why we should have a channel that is NSFW.

NSFW is a warning for an email subject line. It means 'not safe for work' or 'not safe to be viewed at work'. It is used to warn the recipient to not open the message at the office or near young children, because the message contains sexual or repulsive content.

I believe that we should have a NSFW channel in chat. This channel would have its own rules and guidelines to join and a warning before you enter to make sure that the general population can't join unless they know what they are getting into. In this channel you are voided of the following server rules:

Propagating communism, fascism, racism, sexism, nationalism or any other controversial ideologies.

Being mean.

More in depth on what you are voided from:

Propagating communism, fascism, racism, sexism, nationalism or any other controversial ideologies.
You are allowed to propagate nationalism and sexism and controversial ideologies.

AND

Being mean.
You are allowed to swear, be mean and abuse another player(s) verbally (To an extent).

Here are some gerneral guidelines that the chat would follow:

A. Propagating
A1. Propagating Nationalism, sexism and other controversial ideologies are allowed as long as the ideologies are not BLACKLISTED.If an idea is BLACKLISTED and then used, you will be verbally warned. If you continue to use it then you will be system warned. If it continues then you will be banned from using the NSFW chat.

B. Being Mean
B1. Swearing is allowed unless you use a BLACKLISTED word repeatedly.
B2. Being mean is allowed, you may not however witchhunt people (Witchhunting is when multiple people go out of their way to be mean to someone.)
B3. If you are mean to someone, do NOT take it out of chat (I.e continue to be mean in any other chat).
B4. If you are brawling someone (You both are insulting each other) take it to messages (/msg) and do not flood chat with the fight. If it is multiple people use the chat unless a staff tells you to take it somewhere else.
B5. If you are being verbally assaulted then you may ask a staff to stop the assault. If it continues, that player will be warned.
B6. If you are being insulted and you insult back, you cannot ask a staff to stop the assault.
B7. If you assault someone FIRST and they assault you back, you cannot ask a staff to stop the assault.

C. BLACKLISTING
C1. If any word, subject, phrase, etc. are BLACKLISTED, then you are FORBIDDEN from saying it in the NSFW chat.
C2. You can request a word, subject, phrase, etc. from being blacklisted.
C3. If something is blacklisted, you can ask for a removal. If a staff approves, you and the person that blacklisted it will say why it should/should not be blacklisted, then a higher-up staff will make the final decision.
C4. If you say any blacklisted word, you will be verbally warned. If it continues you will be system warned. If it continues from there a staff will decide your fate.

Two other players have said that they would want a NSFW channel where you are at least allowed to curse:

Hey,

I read everything. I'm going to say that I dislike this idea. There's a few things wrong with this suggestion;

1) At the time of this post, the server is family friendly unless told otherwise. In my opinion, I believe that the server should remain family friendly. NSFW content certainly ruins that "family friendly" title.

2) "You are allowed to swear, be mean and abuse another player(s) verbally (To an extent)." Even with "to an extent" added in this sentence, there's so many issues with it alone. No matter what, there's always occasions when insults go too far and hurt someone's feelings. Yes, even to an extent. Having to create a list of words and subjects that have to be "blacklisted" seems like an unnecessary time consuming task for staff--and not for the better.

3) How can we know who is old enough to read the NSFW chat? Again, due to the nature of the server being 'family friendly', even if we were to create a "warning" message upon or before entering this chat, it would be a problem if young players found themselves in it.

TL;DR: This would bring more bad than good, and not only that; this would be much more work for all staff members in general. I also simply see no good reason in having a NSFW chat in a kid's game. It sounds like an idea that's about to turn into catastrophe just by saying that "you can be mean to someone as long as they're in that chat." If you want to use swears/cusses/curses, invite your friends to your world and use private chat--you can use that kind of language there.

I respectfully say no to your suggestion; in my opinion, this should definitely not happen.

A suggestion like this has been suggested before, however it was not implemented as it would be a nightmare for staff to moderate.

Hello Brycen,

I am no longer staff on Aliquam due to outside obligations that keep me busy but I am still very much active in seeing what goes on this server and its forums. Your proposal has been discussed over many years here on Aliquam, at least since I joined and became staff in June of 2015, and have never in the slightest been positive in adding such an NSFW chat.

Now, moving onto what you want to be allowed on such chat and I quote, “Propagating communism, fascism, racism, sexism, nationalism or any other controversial ideologies. You are allowed to propagate nationalism and sexism and controversial ideologies. AND Being mean. You are allowed to swear, be mean and abuse another player(s) verbally (To an extent).”, and while I understand that the freedom of speech will be brought out in this conversation here are the limitations of that part in the United States Bill of Rights and other documents pertaining to the “Freedom of Speech”. Freedom of speech does not include the right: To incite actions that would harm others - Schenck v. United States, 249 U.S. 47 (1919), To make or distribute obscene materials - Roth v. United States, 354 U.S. 476 (1957)." [Citation: http://www.uscourts.gov/about-federal-co.../what-does]. There are basic categories to know that aren’t protected by the First Amendment and they are:
• Obscenity
• Fighting words
• Defamation (including libel and slander)
• Child pornography
• Perjury
• Blackmail
• Incitement to imminent lawless action
• True threats
• Solicitations to commit crimes
[Citation: http://www.newseuminstitute.org/about/fa...amendment/]
These categories, though vague, cover a spectrum of offenses that can infringe on another person’s Inalienable Rights - Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness.

Now how this affects people outside the United States: The United Nations has established a Universal Declaration of Human Rights which like the title suggests talks about the human rights of the world and not just one country itself. This document says: “Article 1 - All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood… Article 3 - Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person…Article 5 - No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment…” and you can go on to read about it here - http://www.un.org/en/universal-declarati...an-rights/

So now to address how this all pertains to your proposal: A – Propagating and Sexism. One has to deal with the current rules of the server while the other one is seen as discrimination in one form or another. Propagating Nationalism can also infringe on ones right when it becomes threatening and when you don’t have enough staff it is very hard to moderate, thus an issue that is futile when asking for such freedoms in a whole separate chat. On to Sexism, the verbal even a mention of sexism already infringes on the rights of the population in the world and completely disregards to the many laws against it. Nowhere on public Minecraft servers will you find such items of discussion due to the nature of most servers serving CHILDREN and TEENAGERS who are of course under the legal age in a majority of countries.

Next item: B – Being Mean. Obviously, just the mention of being mean to players online really brings the topic of inalienable rights, safety, and protecting the well-being of those whom cannot defend themselves in such situations AKA BULLYING. This just opens a wide door for ganging up on people whether in public or private chat which IS AGAINST THE LAW in most states in the United States, http://criminal.findlaw.com/criminal-cha...lying.html.

C – Blacklisting. While this is a good idea for an automated system at the current man power of Aliquam this would only bog down staff and keep them from actually helping people on the server due to the time-consuming nature such a list would take.

Another reasoning for my stance (being a big NO) how do we verify the ages of players; we don’t have access to birth dates from Minecraft nor is it our right to have that information to confirm identities. How do we know if someone is lying about being older? It’s an issue that cannot be dealt with in a MINECRAFT SERVER.
Minecraft is a game for all ages but mainly targeted for kids under 15 and due to the servers strive to stay family friendly an NSFW part of it would just defeat that purpose.

If you really wish to have an NSFW chat make your own private server and have all the freedom in the world do all that you want on it. Aliquam has had a stance as such for a while and I am sure they agree with the contents of my reply due to legality and other instances that this matter will bring up if EVER implemented.

Thanks,
